The quadratic formula is $x=\frac{-b \pm \sqrt {b^{2}-4ac}}{2a}$ Substituting the values, we get $x=\frac{-(-5) \pm \sqrt {(-5)^{2}-4(1)(3)}}{(2)(1)}=\frac{5\pm \sqrt {13}}{2}$ The solutions of the equation are $x=\frac{5+\sqrt {13}}{2}\approx4.3$ and $x= \frac{5-\sqrt {13}}{2}\approx0.7$
