Chapter 13 - Vector Geometry - Chapter Review Exercises - Page 702: 19

Answer

The vector sum ${\bf{v}} = {{\bf{v}}_1} - {{\bf{v}}_2} + {{\bf{v}}_3}$ is shown in the figure.

Work Step by Step

To sketch the vector sum ${\bf{v}} = {{\bf{v}}_1} - {{\bf{v}}_2} + {{\bf{v}}_3}$: First we add the vectors: ${{\bf{v}}_1} + \left( { - {{\bf{v}}_2}} \right)$ using the Parallelogram Law and draw the vector (the dashed arrow as is shown in the figure attached). Then we add ${{\bf{v}}_3}$ to this vector, so we get ${{\bf{v}}_1} - {{\bf{v}}_2} + {{\bf{v}}_3}$ (the red arrow in the figure).
