Chapter 3 - Cells and Tissues - Review Questions - Page 134: 41

Answer

The plasma membrane is made up of two layers of phospholipids. This is due to the fact that phospholipids contain both hydrophobic and hydrophilic parts. So if any damage occurs to the membrane, then the phospholipids quickly rearrange themselves. This is due to the attraction between the hydrophobic parts of both layers and the attraction between the water contents of a cell and the hydrophilic layer. Thus the damage is repaired.
