Chapter 3 - Cells and Tissues - Review Questions - Page 134: 39

Answer

Only the patient with damaged liver will have full functional recovery.

Work Step by Step

Cardiac cells are not capable of cell regeneration. Hence, the damaged part will be replaced by scar tissue, which will limit proper functionality of the heart. Neurons also cannot regenerate new cells, and formation of scar tissue in the brain might further disrupt neural pathways and signals. Liver cells stop cell division upon maturity. But, in case of damage, they can again start cell division and regenerate themselves to repair the damage and bring back the original functionality.
