    We see Joe come into town and stop for gas, then go to the diner. He asks about the owner of the filling station because he knows him. The woman at the counter says it's a small world, but Joe says, "Or a big sign." The symbolism of Jeff's sign is that it he is a big target being hunted by Whit.

    Jeff meets Kathie in Acapulco. The location is significant because he isn't in Mexico for vacation, he's been sent by Whit to bring Kathie back to him. But, instead Jeff falls in love with her and chooses to gamble with running off with Kathie despite Whit.

    Jeff and Kathie are seen coming home to her bungalow in Acapulco for the first time in the midst of a storm. In relation to the couple the storm represents the chaos that will ensue between them, and that though there is passion Jeff cannot trust Kathie. Can't trust her enough that her passion won't spill over into something that will harm him.
