Jeff
Jeff is the protagonist of the film. He's created a new life and identity in a small town in Nevada. But Whit, his former employer comes looking for him. And, with Whit comes trouble in the form of settling old debts and Kathie, Whit's girl and Jeff's former lover. Jeff tries to do right by his new life and girl, Ann, but in the end loses his life to the crooked life of his past that has crept into the present.
Kathie
Kathie is Whit's girl who betrayed him by shooting him and stealing $40,000 from him. She falls in love with Jeff who is supposed to bring her back to Whit. But she betrays Jeff and goes back to Whit. She only seeks to ensure only her safety at all times. A smooth talker and willing to lie to anyone about anything as long as it keeps her out from behind bars.
Whit
Whit is a businessman who doesn't play by all of the legal rules. He is Jeff's former employer who calls on him years after Jeff has left in order to settle an old debt with him for trying to steal Kathie from him. Whit is adamant about getting what he wants, but also incredibly calculated and doesn't lose his cool easy.
Ann
Ann is Jeff's new girl in the small Nevada town. She stays committed to Jeff even after he tells her all of his past and how he's wound up in the position he's in. She stands by him when the papers say he's a murderer and when her parents don't like him.
