Natural hair

As the movie is called Nappily Ever After it is natural to connect the movie with black, natural hair, that has been described as "nappy" a very long time. The word is a negatively charged word that has been used to press down the black-haired community, stemming from negative views from slavery. This is shown in the movie. Violet learns to love her hair, despite what the world says, and embraces to word "nappy" making it her own, positive word.

Perfection

Violet strived for perfection from the beginning of her life. Her mother always made sure she was portrayed as the best version of herself, and as she grew up, she began doing it herself. However, as Violet grows more in herself, she learns that she is good enough without being perfect, and that perfect is an illusion anyway. Being honest and vulnerable was what made Violet happy in the end, not being perfect. Being proud is what matters.

Being proud

Being proud is important, and the importance of it is clearly shown in the narrative. Violet was ashamed of her natural hair and her feeling. She must overcome all this in order for her to break out of her shell and become "free". She does break out of the chains society, her family, and she have put on herself when she decides to love herself, no matter the way she looks like.
