Rain Cloud
We see Violet as she eyes the clouds in the sky while having a drink with her friends outside. In the midst of a beautiful day, all she sees is the potential for a rain cloud. The imagery shows us that she's completely focused on every issue that could derail her perfect appearance.
Chia Pet
A young Violet comes up after holding her breath with a young white boy in the pool who's challenged her to a breath holding contest. Her hair has expanded and the kid exclaims that she looks like a chia pet. And all the other white kids around the pool begin to make fun of her. The imagery reveals, first the cruelty that young Violet had to endure for simply being who she is, and second an inciting incident which causes her to never feel this way again.
The Ring
Violet's Mom comes over at 5:00 am on her daughter's birthday and Violet pulls a secret birthday gift out of her boyfriend's coat in the downstairs closet. They are celebrating that they think Clint will propose. Then her Mom does her hair in the kitchen. The imagery shows the extreme lengths Violet will go to in order to look her best in order to get what she wants: a proposal.
The Dog
Clint gets Violet a dog for her birthday instead of proposing to her. The imagery reveals that her instinct that she was getting engaged is completely torn. She and Clint are at completely different places in their hearts and his gift reveals this.
