Nappily Ever After was distributed by Netflix who also produced it alongside Marc Platt Productions and Badabing Pictures. Adam Brooks and Cee Marcellus wrote the screenplay which was based upon Trisha R. Thomas' book "Nappily Ever After." The film was directed by Haifaa al-Mansour and stars Sanaa Lathan, Ernie Hudson, Lyriq Bent, and Lynn Whitfield. Released on September 21, 2018.
The film is about Violet Jones, played by Lathan, who has been waiting for her longtime boyfriend to propose to her. In order to stop waiting, she breaks up with him. After this, we watch as her attempts to find identity through her hair, her work and her relationships continue to land her nowhere. Lathan did actually shave her hair for the film, which was shot in Atlanta, Georgia.
