    Mr Hartright writes that he never had any suspicion that the woman he saw as Laura was actually Anne Catherick, even though Mr Fairlie and the servants cannot tell which woman she is. Do readers believe she is Laura or Anne Catherick?

    The woman is presented to readers as Laura without doubt that it is true. But isn't it possible that Marian and Walter are both wrong, and the woman is indeed Anne Catherick? Why or why not? The discussion should take into consideration previous discussions about the reliability of narrators and the importance of having more than one perspective.
