Why does Mrs Michelson hold the Count in such high esteem?
Readers get to see Count Fosco through Mrs Michelson eyes, and what a favorable picture she paints. She even believes Laura doesn't like him because he is not English. Readers know better because they have been able to see him through other perspectives. Mrs Michelson is still in the stage where Marian was when she first met the Count: he is eccentric and charming, and he draws people in. Her opinion of him should further cement readers' understanding that Count Fosco does well presenting himself in a certain agreeable way in order to manipulate people.
