Chapter 16

Pablo gets drunk and starts insulting Jordan, much to the disgust of the other guerillas. When someone reminds Pablo of all of the killings he did to clear the city of Fascists, he admits that he drinks from guilt. He says that he wishes he could bring them back to life, which angers the others. Agustín starts to fight Pablo, but the latter backs off, for fear of provoking someone to kill him. Throughout the fight, we learn that Jordan came to Spain because he taught Spanish.
