Why did the rebels agree to kill Pablo? Are they justified in their concerns? How would killing Pablo make things worse for them?
By this point, students should be seeing the novel’s suggestion that killing has dire consequences for people, even if it's justified. So even if they accept the reasons given by the characters, namely that Pablo’s increased drunkness puts the camp in danger, students should also see that doing so has the potential to make everyone in the camp into Pablo. They may all feel the same guilt and sadness, even if they kill him for their own safety.
