Einstein's Dreams Summary

Einstein's Dreams Summary

Einstein’s dreams is a brilliant story about time and perception of time. There are no usual components of the fiction book, there is no climax, and all characters except Einstein and his friend are not important for the plot; they play a role models of different pictures of time and space like puppets, and readers are not focused on their feelings and emotion. These characters just show how people would if the concept of time will be different. For example, in a world of fixed future, there can be no right or wrong: ”Right and wrong demand freedom of choice, but if each action is already chosen, there can be no freedom of choice. In a world of fixed future, no person is responsible. The rooms are already arranged”.

The story begins with Einstein working in his office and thinking over about the concept of time. He has been dreaming of it for the last few nights and now he finally finished his theory of time which was a part of his theory of relativity. He is a man of a science with a unique intelligence and all he needs in this world is to spend all his time working. He has a wife and a little infant but he doesn’t care about them, they are not part of his life, he founds equations more interesting way of spending his time. his giant imagination created a series of worlds, where time is not linear as it is now. There was a world in which time was like a river, without memories, with fixed future, a spatial dimension, a circle, standing still. He dreams how it could influence common people and their lives, if they would be happy of miserable. He is looking for a perfect time, but actually, it is impossible to find it, because every time dimension has it’s pros and cons.

The concept of time is so important: it’s a huge power that appeared long ago and people can't change it, they are meant to obey the time, thinks Einstein: “ Time is too precious. A life is a moment in season. A life is one snowfall. A life is one autumn day. A life is the delicate, rapid edge of a closing door’s shadow. A life is a brief movement of arms and of legs”.

In the end of the story, Einstein is as well staying at the window, thinking of his theory of time. he feels empty, there is no person he would like to tell about his dreams, even to his best friend Besso. The exact reason of his emptiness is unclear but maybe he think that those dreams are to precious to divide them with somebody who will maybe not even understand them.
