How is Big Daddy similar to or different from your expectations of him?
Students should refer back to last night's homework to answer this question, as well as drawing on their discussions of the text from Day One. Big Daddy was clearly a powerful figure, and someone who was suffering from illness, per Brick, Maggie, and Big Mama's dialogue in Act One; we see all of these at play in the text. In addition, they might note that he is as dismissive of Gooper, Mae, and the children as Maggie described him. However, some students might be surprised by Big Daddy's crudeness and his cruelty, particularly to his wife.
