Act One
Margaret, or Maggie, flounces into the room as her husband Brick gets out of the shower, complaining about their nieces and nephews, whom she calls "no-neck monsters." Brick is holding onto the towel bar; he has injured his ankle. Maggie is frustrated that Brick's brother, Gooper, and his wife, Mae, are continually showing their five undisciplined children off to Maggie's father-in-law and the children's grandfather, Big Daddy. She's sure that Gooper and Mae are trying to get hold of Big Daddy's inheritance now that Big Daddy is dying of cancer. Brick is startled to hear this about Big Daddy, but Maggie is certain of it.
