Taki Tachibana
Taki is the male protagonist of the movie. He is a handsome Tokyo boy, who represents Mitsuha's dream of escape from the small town. The two find themselves switching bodies while they sleep and as this situation progresses the affection for one another grows.
Mitsuha Miyamizu
Mitsuha is the female protagonist of the movie. She is a young girl living in a small town called Itamari, and dreams of the big city of Tokyo. She spends her time in school or helping her grandmother with threading in a local shrine. Mitsuha suddenly finds herself switching bodies with a handsome boy from Tokyo, which she thinks at first as being a dream, but later has to get accustomed to the male body and Taki's daily life.
Miki Okudera
Miki is Taki's colleague from a restaurant he works part-time. She is beautiful and Taki has a crush on. While Mitsuha is in his body, she progresses with his relationship with Miki, even arranging dates for them. Miki soon realizes that Taki no longer likes her and senses another girl in his life.
Hitoha Miyamizu
Hitoha Miyamizu is Mitsuha's grandmother and head of the Miyamizu family. She takes care of the local shrine and is full of wisdom about religion and tradition.
