Every classroom is different, but the key to teaching a play, whether it is in a literature course or a drama or theater course, is to bring the play alive in your classroom. Reading a play is a different experience from reading a novel; likewise, a play should be taught differently. This lesson plan includes activities and questions that can be used to encourage students to perform and see the play as a performed text. The themes in The Seagull, including love, failure, and disappointment, and the sense of the "everyday" in the play may be of interest to many students.
