Raju's father, proud of his earnings, buys a jutka and horse in order to get into town and do his shopping more easily. He also hires a groom to take care of the horse. Raju's mother is not pleased with these purchases and wears her husband down with her opposition. Raju's father contemplates converting the carriage into a cart, but the hired groom laughs and convinces him of a better plan: allow the groom to lend it out for hire at the market.
