Mansfield published many short stories, essays, articles, and poems in various publications during her life. She published three volumes of short stories while she lived: In a German Pension (1911), Bliss & Other Stories (1920), and The Garden Party & Other Stories (1922). She died early in 1923 at the age of thirty-four. Several more collections of her short stories were published after her death, along with a novel, The Aloe. This and many of her other stories were edited by her husband and editorial collaborator before death, John Middleton Murry. In total, Mansfield wrote dozens of short stories.
