    Franklin Says, and I Say: A They Say, I Say Short Composition

    Kind of Activity:

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will be able to integrate textual evidence into a critical response to the reading.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.1.b

    Structure:

    Students will find evidence to support popular opinion about Benjamin Franklin.

    Have students use popular resources to identify Franklin's most famous sayings. They may simply do a Google search to find these. Have them make a list of ten of his most popular aphorisms/maxims/proverbs, etc.

    Have them go back as far as the beginning of the text to find passages from his own life which seem to provide evidence...
