Answer
A surgery for otosclerosis is aimed at restoring hearing caused by conduction deafness. The surgery tries to restore the ability to conduct sound waves from the air into the cochlea of the inner ear.
Work Step by Step
The sound waves are transmitted by auditory ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes) from the tympanic membrane to the inner ear. But otosclerosis can prevent these three bones from moving properly due to which sound waves do not reach the inner ear and causes hearing loss. The surgery to correct otosclerosis tries to restore the original movements of auditory ossicles. This surgery might fail because whatever condition caused the changes in the auditory ossicles might again disrupt their position.
