“She Wanted to watch The Godfather”

When Miles inquires whether the baby wanted to suckle, Nina replies, “No, she wanted to watch The Godfather.” Nina’s retort is ironic seeing that the baby is two weeks ; hence, wouldn’t know what viewing TV is. She is not yet developed to engross in TV watching. The ironic observation alludes to Nina’s present longing which is being thwarted by motherhood accountabilities.

The Irony of a Mess

Miles asserts, “Yes, I want to have sex! Remember sex? It’s how we made the baby and got ourselves into this mess in the first place.” If sex is a cause of their mess, Miles would not have insisted of having sex again. He would have circumvented it to thwart another probable "mess."
