Nina
Nina is an Asian-American who is in her mid-30s. She is married to Miles and together they have a newborn daughter. She is a dedicated and hardworking mother. She is often criticized by Kit and Miles for prioritizing her daughter more than anything else. She thinks she’s not an effective mother because she doesn’t possess her Asian heritage to pass on to her daughter.
Miles
Miles is African-American, also in his mid-30s. He is Nina’s husband, father to their newborn daughter. As a child, he grew up in an orphanage and later adopted by a white family. He is unable to connect with his heritage because of that which makes it hard for him to be a good father to his daughter.
Kit
Kit is Nina’s business partner in an architecture firm. Thus being a partnership, she feels as though Nina has been less focused at work and more at home with her daughter. They have a big competition coming up which could be beneficial to them both. Kit, however, feels as though Nina is not up to the task.
Eric
Eric is Miles’ white brother. He is back from Asia with an entrepreneurial opportunity that he wants to drag Miles into. Nina is against this business venture.
Mrs. Chae
Mrs. Chae is a nanny in his 50s from Korea. Nina hires her because she feels it’s vital for her daughter to learn her mother’s heritage. Mrs. Chae is however not as discreet about her racial opinions as she should be around this modern interracial family.
