    The Pequod Manifesto

    Kind of Activity:

    Group Work

    Objective:

    Students will create a manifesto of the crewmen aboard the Pequod.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.2.A

    Structure:

    The chapters entitled "Knights and Squires" (27 and 28) provide a detailed breakdown of the crew aboard the Pequod, bringing together the many different people and the varied jobs that they fill. Because students are likely unfamiliar with the various ranks and responsibilities on a whaling ship, this activity will have small groups creating a ship manifesto based on the information found within the text.
