    "The Highest Truth"

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will write about a place that is important to them, as the sea is important to Ishmael.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.9-10.2

    Structure:

    Thus far in our reading, Ishmael has repeatedly mentioned the effect that being out at sea has on him, starting from chapter 1, when he describes it as therapeutic, a necessary practice when he begins to grow "hazy about the eyes." Spending time at sea is clearly important to Ishmael, as it offers a way for him to recharge, to find his joie de vivre again, and to realign his spiritual compass.
