    Hoist the Mizzen-mast!

    Objective:

    Students will label a diagram of a whaling ship and define its many parts.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.9-10.1

    Structure:

    As students have likely noticed even at this early stage in their reading, Moby Dick is not only verbosely written, but full of nautical and whaling terminology that they are likely unfamiliar with. This activity aims to bridge that knowledge gap.
