"A couple of things. Taking a break from my wife, forgetting my son's birthday and getting paid two million dollars to endorse a whiskey when I could be doing a play somewhere."
Bob tells Charlotte the truth of what he is doing in Tokyo. He doesn't sugarcoat his life for her, as for some reason he is able to tell a stranger the reality of his life rather than lying.
"I hope you've had enough to drink, it's gonna take courage."
Bob says this to Charlotte after seeing her again in the same bar of the hotel they are staying at. It's a passing comment as she is leaving the bar but it has implications about his underlying desire to be with her.
"You got a sharp knife?"
Bob asks the sushi chef if he has a sharp knife as he's joking that he's going to cut off Charlotte's toe because the Japanese love black toe (she injured it recently). This comment is a playful banter that increases the tension of chemistry between the two characters.
