Bar
We see Bob and Charlotte sitting at the bar with a seat between them. The framing of this shot makes them appear to be incredibly far apart even though they are mere feet from one another as the darkness from behind them looms over the top. The imagery creates the vast space between them.
Not Alone
Bob opens the door for Charlotte and she hears the jazz singer whom he's slept with in his room. The imagery makes it feel as though he's attempting to get away with what he's done by hoping Charlotte won't recognize it. So it creates suspense in the imagery as we know the possibility of it happening is there.
Casino
We see Charlotte leading Bob through a row of slot machines as they run away through Tokyo stores. The imagery represents that the two of them are wound up in a game of sorts with one another, playing their luck with every moment they meet and maybe one moment will turn into some sort of win for them.
Injured
Bob asks Charlotte to get into a wheelchair once he's taken her to the hospital for her injured toe. The imagery shows that Bob is a man who exaggerates the reality of a situation. It makes people feel wonderful but the truth is convoluted in his ability to manipulate a moment and make people feel happy.
