Immortal Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Visions

Visions are a motif that serve as a connection between the two girls from different time periods, but who are connected through blood and fate. Evie has visions of Lady Agnes. Lady Agnes appears to warn her of the danger that is in front of her. Lady Agnes has visions of Evie in which she senses that Evie needs her help to save herself and Sebastian.

The four elements

The four elements are connected to, what is being called the Mystic way in the novel, or, in other words, witchcraft. The power is taken from nature; those elements are part of nature and the one who seeks the power call upon those elements. Those elements include air for breath, fire for passion, water for blood, and earth for the body.

Pendant necklace

The pendant necklace is something that has been passed down in Evie's family through generations. Her grandmother gave it to her when she was about to leave for Wyldcliffe and it's very important because of the emotional value. Evie refuses to let it out of her sight even if it might pose as a threat to her life in Abbey boarding school. Later on in the novel, she discovers that the pendant holds even greater value than what she initially thought. It connects her to Agnes, it holds Agnes's mystical powers that Agnes left for her to unlock, and it serves to protect her and give her strength.
