Although Hunches in Bunches (originally published in 1982) is one of Dr. Seuss' lesser-known books, it tells the incredibly interesting story of a boy who is approached by strange-looking things with hats that look like gloves on their heads. Some things inform the boy of different actions he could take; others, however, tell him the opposite. Like virtually all of his books, Seuss wrote Hunches in Bunches to get children interested in reading. To that end, he wrote the book in a simple way with an interesting and effective rhyming scheme to make it more enjoyable and easily digestible.
When it was released, Hunches in Bunches received mostly positive reviews. Although they mostly liked the book and its illustrations, Kirkus Reviews wrote in their review that "The bearded purple Down Hunch is a silly extravagance dealt with a touch of éclat, but mostly this is just one more product of the Dr. Seuss machine set on automatic." While not a classic Dr. Seuss book, it is certainly a solid entry in his vast bibliography.
