Like many of those around them, Kaye and Edgar have financially struggled for many years. But they've had enough of it, so they start what is essentially a Ponzi scheme to get themselves and their families out of crippling debt and poverty.
They start to pedal this insidious scheme to their church members and to their friends to great success (they quickly become millionaires). But, like every Ponzi scheme, a time for reckoning quickly comes for the pair. Specifically, their father-in-law's house is ransacked and he is missing. From there, their lives begin to unravel. Their friends and church begin to turn on them - something which the Bishop of their church doesn't seem to notice as he is more preoccupied with raising money for a new church.
Because the Bishop isn't listening to those who say that Kaye and Edgar are evil and have stolen their money, people start to threaten Kaye and Edgar and continue to demand their money back - all to no avail. When things continue to be violent, Edgar decides that he ought to help his criminal family.
