The Church
The Church is supposedly motivated by a desire to help the community. However, when Kay and Edgar seek help they are rejected.
Capitalism
Capitalist societies are often run on the idea that everybody has the opportunity to work hard and succeed. However, Edgar and Kay struggle to make ends meet and give their daughter the opportunities to improve their lifestyle.
Helping his daughter
Edgar is originally motivated to earn more money to help his daughter. However, in the end, this actually negatively impacts her as she is kidnapped.
The bishop
The bishop presents that he wants to help people; however, when people are in dire need of help he ignores them.
Angel's name
Angel's name is inspired by religion. However, Edgar is entirely opposed to the church, even encouraging his wife to stop attending church.
