Edgar
Edgar is a low-class individual living in the poor streets of Mexico. He is married to Kaye and together they have a beautiful daughter. Despite his wife’s devotion to religion, he remains skeptical about the practice and discourages her from attending the church. Edgar’s bias towards the church becomes violent when the priest declines to return the money that was initially offered to the church by Kaye. He contemplates robbing the church to save his wife and daughter from the kidnappers. Edgar almost kills the priest.
Kaye
Kaye is Edgar’s wife and a deeply religious woman. She offers the church the biggest donation among the congregation as a sign of her devotion. Kaye is later kidnapped and tortured by the people whose money had been lost in her father’s scheme. She succumbs to the wounds that had been inflicted on her by the kidnappers. Edgar is furious and kills the man who fatally wounded Kaye.
Angel
Angel is Edgar and Kaye’s daughter who is also deeply religious and often compares herself to Mary. She is kidnapped when robbers storm their home in search of money. The kidnappers will release her on the condition that her father pays back the money that was lost in the scheme. Angel is highly disappointed when her hair is shaved off by the kidnappers. She believes she can no longer be compared to Mary. Angel is saved from the kidnappers by her father.
