Evil Forces
This theme involves the antagonists of the film. Knowby unleashes the demonic forces that possess Linda and go after Ash by reading from the Book of the Dead, which is the source of the evil forces ability to enter the woods and begin its tormenting upon Ash.
Hubris
The theme of hubris is quite clear as Knowby and his daughter believe they have found a major archeological find, which they have, in the book of the dead. But in their quest to bring forth ancient relics they create the downfall of life for anyone who reads from it as the demonic forces unleashed through the book bring death to anyone who reads from it.
Torment
Raimi's frantic camera in the film represents the demon attempting to take possession of a victim. This camera style becomes the theme for the demon and raises the anxiety level of the viewer as we know that evil is hunting.
