Obedience
Obedience is a main trait of Ella’s character. However, it is not exactly positive. Commonly, when children obey their parents, it is useful for children (they become self-dependent) and for parents (they have support in their life). Ella’s obedience is useful only for society and her enemies. After all, her stepmother can make Ella to clean the whole house, but the next day Olga will order her to leave it. This is a great tragedy, because Ella depends on every person, who asks her for any favor. It seems that Ella can ignore all her orders, but it will only harm her. Obedience is not even Ella’s feature. It is a damnation or something.
Family
Ella loves her parents very much, but this love is not eternal. She loses her mother, and her father is indifferent to his daughter. It is very difficult to discuss the theme of family in this tale, because the loss of family is the most difficult moment in life, especially for children. It is an intolerable pain, which will torment Ella all her life. Of course, little Ella does not lose heart, because she has Mandy. Mandy is the only person, who cares about Ella. She appreciates Mandy’s kindness and moral support, because the wicked stepmother and stepsisters just reproach her for everything. Later, Ella finds a new family – Prince Charmont, who makes her happy.
Willpower
Willpower is perhaps a trait of character, which not everyone has. Not every person will be able to come to terms with the loss of mother and suffer the terrible stepmother, including her eternal reproaches. Ella is a girl, who has willpower that makes her fight for justice and good. Unlike obedience, perseverance makes her stronger. Ella stands her stepmother, a boarding house and stepsisters’ meaningless tricks and orders. She fights for her love and gets rid of her obedience. Even her mother’s death does not break Ella. It is because Ella has willpower and she will not give up for no particular reason.
