Bride and Prejudice Irony

Bride and Prejudice Irony

Wickham

Wickham describes Darcy to Lalita as a bad person, an idea which she believes. Ironically, Wickham has impregnated Darcy's sister with the sole intention of marrying into her family for her money.

Fantasy

Lalita has a fantasy about Wickham after their dance. She imagines that they are on the altar getting married, when ironically Darcy's face appears as she is going in to kiss Wickham. It's clear that her desires are split.

Darcy

Darcy is attempting to convince Lalita that he is a good man. Ironically, when Lalita meets Darcy's family, she learns that Darcy has convinced his friend Balraj to not marry Lalita's sister because the mother is perceived as a gold-digger. This is a personal shot that Lalita cannot stand for.

Rendezvous

Lakhi sneeks away in order to meet Wickham for a secret rendezvous. Ironically, once Lalita finds out who Wickham really is she stops their secret meeting and tells her sister the truth, and they both slap him for his lies.

Marriage

Lalita has rejected Kohli's marriage proposal to which her mother orders her to accept. Ironically, Lalita's father won't back up his wife, as he agrees with his daughter's decision and stand behind her rather than the cultural norm of marrying because it is the best offer.
