Reeves Wiedeman
Wiedeman is the narrator and writer of the narrative. In his book, Billion Dollar Loser, Wiedeman outlines the journey of the billion dollar company that was built on the notion of revolutionizing working space. He also describes the company’s key employees and founders who took part in the hoax.
Adam Neumann
The main protagonist of the story, Neumann, is the co-founder and CEO of the fastest growing and falling company in the United States. His company, WeWork had grown to over forty-seven billion dollars in venture capital in less than eight years. The fledgling and eccentric entrepreneur loved partying and never shied away from spending his millions in company retreats. Partying was at the heart of WeWork’s culture. At one of the annual company retreats, Neumann squandered enough money on drinks that could have covered most of entry-level employee’s nominal salary.
Neumann ran the company like a cult. Utilizing his cunning skills, he convinced a Japanese firm to invest four billion dollars in his so-called revolutionary technology. The investment remains the most enormous investment in a private company in history.
Miguel McKelvey
Like his friend and business partner Neumann, McKelvey also lived his life like a rock star. He and Neumann had met in a music festival and immediately became friends. The two went ahead and started WeWork. However McKelvey resigned after the company’s botched IPO announcement which revealed irregularities in the company’s finances.
