Before I Fall Imagery

Car accident

The car accident, which is constantly repeated in the novel, cannot be unnoticed, because the circumstances are so terrible that the reader can feel this moment. When the car with the girls breaks, a “white flame” flashes. The car flies off the road straight into “the black maw of the forest”. Sam hears a creepy sound – “the gnash of iron and the tinkling of glass”. Sam smells “something burning”. The image of the car accident gives an impression of the most tragic moment in the novel.

Girl with a destroyed fate

Juliet Sykes, whose nickname is Psycho, is the main outcast among students. She “does not walk, but rather swims”, as if she is attracted by forces beyond the control. Juliet has “long pale fingers” that she always hides. Her “face is hidden behind a veil of blond, almost colorless hair”. Her shoulders “are tucked to her ears”. The image of Juliet Sykes gives an impression of a frightened and defenseless girl, who is constantly bullied by her peers.
