About the Author

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born in Enugu and raised in Nsukka, Nigeria, where both her parents worked at the university. She moved to the United States at the age of nineteen to study communications in Philadelphia, but transferred to and graduated from Eastern Connecticut University. She received two master's degrees: one in creative writing from Johns Hopkins University, and one in African Studies from Yale University.

Her first novel, Purple Hibiscus, was published in 2003 and won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. In 2006, she published her second novel, Half of a Yellow Sun. This book received the Orange Prize for Fiction and was adapted into a...
