Philip Winter
Philip is a writer and journalist who travelled to America to write a story about his experiences. He is the main protagonist of the movie and the movie shows his struggle with depression after losing a sense of self, and regaining that sense when a new person unexpectedly enters his life.
Alice van Damm
Alice is a little girl whose divorced mother leaves her in the hands of Philip, whom she only recently met, and disappears without a trace. After finding out that she was left behind, Alice tries to find her grandmother together with Phil, and in their traveling together they form a close bond, similar to a father and daughter.
Lisa van Damm
Appearing only for a short while in the movie, Lisa is a representation of a selfish mother, who doesn't care about anyone else but herself. She intentionally leaves her daughter with a man she only met recently, in pursuit of freedom after divorce.
Friend from New York-Angela
Appearing only for one scene in the movie, Phil's friend from New York serves an important role in enlightening the audience about the character of Phil. She psychoanalyses Phil, saying that he's lost a sense of self and is constantly in pursuit of evidence to prove his existence to himself.
