A Crown of Swords Themes

Power

Throughout the book, Rand makes it clear that he wields the strength and power of the Dragon. He predominantly shows this by banishing Colavaere and Perrin in order to maintain his power in the strongholds. However, he eventually realizes that the very people he is ruling over are the people who he owes his own loyalty towards.

Friendship

Friendships is one of the most important themes present throughout the course of hr book. Perrin, Mat, Rand, Elayne, and Nynaeve have all been bonded both throughout their childhood and their shared ordeals over the course of the books. Even when Rand banishes Perrin, he welcomes him back and acknowledges his wrong doings.

Good vs Evil

Evil mainly comes in the form of “The Dark One”, who manages to appeal to the masses who seek their own fortune. The people would rather join him in his evil reign than object to his oppression or fight for justice. On the other hand, Rand is proof of the true good that remains in the world, as he continues to fight against the “The Dark One” even when there seems to be no hope.
