Love and Relationships
Pepa Marcos is involved in an intimate relationship with Ivan. However, Ivan dumps her without an explanation. Pepa is devastated but forgets that Ivan was initially in love with Lucia. Ivan is depicted as a male chauvinist who hurts women when he falls in love with them. Carlos, Ivan’s son is also in love with Marissa. Love and relationships form the central idea of this movie. Most of the characters are in love. But, the relationships end badly.
Male Chauvinism vs. Feminism
The main character of this film, Ivan, is depicted as a male chauvinist. Ivan feels superior and has a domineering attitude over women. That character makes him dump women at will and without explanation. Ironically, he meets a feminist lawyer by the name of Paulina Morales. Morales acts like a man and believes that women should not regret losing a man. In fact, she criticizes Pepa for crying over Ivan.
Lost Love and Frustration
Most of the female characters in this movie are frustrated due to the loss of love. Pepa feels frustrated after Ivan dumps her without explanation. Indeed, Pepa is aware of Ivan’s philandering behavior but decides to stay with him. However, when Ivan dumps her, Pepa is devastated. Lucia is another woman who suffers humiliation after Ivan dumps her. Ivan impregnates Lucia and leaves her for another woman. This leaves her dejected.
Irresponsibility and Negligence
Irresponsibility is another dominant idea in this film. Ivan is portrayed as an irresponsible man unable to take care of a woman. First, he shows his irresponsibility when he dumps Lucia after impregnating her. Ivan also dumps Pepa without explanation. He even doesn’t seem to care. Ivan’s absence from his women shows negligence. These behaviors amount to irresponsibility.
Adultery and Cheating
Ivan is an adulterous man who cheats on his lovers willingly. First, he falls in love with Lucia and then leaves her for Pepa. Subsequently, Ivan leaves Pepa for Pauline. Ivan’s son, Carlos, also starts flirting with Candela while still dating Marissa. These behaviors are exhibited by adulterous men known for cheating on their wives or lovers.
