Students will do an in-depth analysis of a symbol.

Structure:

To begin the activity, show students the following video about symbols (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Vwek28P9Gk). Then, lead students through a short discussion using some or all of the following questions:

· What is a symbol?

· How do you know when you’ve come across a symbol in a book?

· Why are symbols important?
