Wolf Pack

Wolf Pack Analysis

Wolf Pack by Edo Van Belkom is a fantasy novel set in British Colombia. The novel is told from a third-person perspective using an ardent and idyllic tone. The novel’s main conflict is between humans and wildlife because humans start forest fires that endanger the lives of wild animals. Wolf Pack is about how a park ranger, Garrett Brock, rescues and adopts four wolf cubs abandoned in the forest after a devastating fire. The primary themes in the novel include love for wild animals, unity, and the relationship between humans and animals.

The author illustrates Garret Brock's love for wild animals when he saves four wolf cubs stranded after a forest fire. Brock is a park ranger by profession, and he loves interacting with various animals that he comes across. When Brock takes the cubs home, his wife receives them wholeheartedly and loves them unconditionally. The cubs are half-human and half-wolves, but Brock's wife decides to care for them as humans. As the cubs grow into young teens, Brock frequently allows them to go to the forest for fun. While in the forest, the teens transform into wolves, but when they return home, they transition into humans. Brock and his wife keep the secret of the four wolf cubs to protect them from any possible harm.

The second major theme in Wolf Pack is unity. The cubs namely, Argus, Harlan, Noble, and Tora are united. Tora is the only female; her brothers are always ready to defend her from predators. One day while in the forest, Dr. Monk, a glory-hungry scientist, films the four siblings transforming into wolves. When Dr. Monk captures Tora to investigate her genes, the three brothers unite to rescue her. The brothers will endanger their lives to save their sister from the oppressor. Dr. Monk is a selfish man who wants to gain popularity and money by broadcasting the transition of the four werewolves.

Wolf Pack also explores the relationship between humans and wild animals. The author shows how humans encroach on animals' inhabitants and cause fires that endanger the ecosystem. The four helpless cubs show how animals suffer when humans interfere with their inhabitants. However, Brock demonstrates that a few humans are concerned about the safety of wild animals when he adopts the four helpless wolf cubs.

The novel concludes by showing how humans gang up against the wolves under Brock’s care. The locals lie that the wolves are destroying their firms. As the tension builds up, Brock and his wife Maria free the wolves into the wild, ensuring they are unhurt. After freeing the wolves, Brock and Maria hurriedly leave the town, hoping that the wolves will be safe throughout their lives.
