This Is Where It Ends Irony

This Is Where It Ends Irony

Opportunity High School’s Motto

The motto for the school is, ‘We shape the future.’ It is a situational irony that the narrator, Claire does not know what she would do in the coming future since she was due to graduate that year. The reader would expect that Claire would know what lies ahead since the school has always encouraged its students to build and visualize their future.

Unfair Profiling

Fareed was the only Muslim student at Opportunity High School He was originally from Afghanistan. It is a situational irony that if anything mischievous happened at the school, Fareed would be suspected because of his ethnicity and religion.

The Broadcasters

It is ironical that when there was a school shooting at Opportunity High School, the reporters came and started broadcasting live. This is ironical because as they broadcasted, students were still in danger in the auditorium since the shooter was still killing people inside and other students were injured. The expectation was that the reporters should have ensured that the students were safe before they started broadcasting. They took advantage of the situation that the students were in to make headlines.

Tyler’s Revenge

Tyler was grieved by the death of his mother. It is a situational irony that he sought comfort in being rebellious and eventually killing thirty nine students and teachers at Opportunity High School. He should have sought professional help to deal with his grief instead of taking it out on innocent students.

Mr. Brown's Abusive Behavior

When Mrs. Browne died, her husband did not console their two children, Tyler and Autumn. Instead he became physically and emotionally abusive towards Autumn and he regularly beat and insulted her. This is a situational irony because he should have consoled his children in their grief rather than adding to their pain.
