Tyler Browne
He is a troubled young man who becomes a school shooter, killing several of his schoolmates and teachers, and then commits suicide. He is abusive and lacks remorse for those around him even his own family. He is presented through the narrations of other characters in the story. His sister Autumn portrays him as an occasionally loving but mostly abusive older brother. He is a personification of the school shooter teenager who is mentally disturbed, harbors a lot of anger, and experiences alienation and insecurities.
Autumn Browne
Tyler’s younger sister is a loving sister and daughter but her affection is not reciprocated. She aspires to be a dancer and wants to pursue it seriously but her dreams are shattered when her brother shoots her leg. She is in love and in a secret relationship with Sylvia who is supportive and loving unlike other people in her life. She is a victim of abuse from both her father and brother, who are emotionally stunted and disturbed. She is grieving her mother’s death but she healthily handles her grief and sorrow.
Claire Morgan
Claire is Tyler’s ex-girlfriend and older sister to Matt who is murdered in the auditorium during the school shooting. She is athletic and spends most of her time on track practicing even the shooting finds her during practice. Akin to other students she suffers from teen angst and uncertainty. But she also harbors a lot of guilt for not noticing and confront the fact that Tyler was descending into a dark place.
Sylvia Morales
She is academically gifted and similar to Autumn she is good-hearted and loving. She is the twin sister to Tomas. She is a victim of Tyler’s wrath once he becomes aware of her relationship with his sister. Tyler rapes her part because he is in a continuing conflict with her brother. She receives an acceptance letter from Brown University but is afraid that her relationship with Autumn will suffer due to the distance.
Tomás Morales
Tomas is Sylvia’s twin brother and he is a caring sibling than Tyler even though his relationship with Sylvia sometimes suffers. He is also a narrator in the story and he is portrayed as a thoughtful individual. His ultimate sacrifice is shown when he sacrifices his own life to save his sister from Tyler.
