There’s a Wocket in my Pocket Metaphors and Similes

The Names

The creature’s names are actually a physical manifestation, and therefore a metaphor, for the household item that inspired their name. for example, the boys closet inspired the naming of the Woset and the sink lead to the creating of the Nink.

The Rhymes

The Rhymes are a metaphor for easy learning for children. As some of the readers may be quite young and would find the words challenging, Seuss opted to make them rhyme with the creatures so that it would be easier for children to remembers the words in real life.

The Boy

The boy himself may be a metaphor for that of a lonely or neglected child. He is not shown to have any parents or friends. Indeed, he is even left at home all alone, painting a picture of an abandoned child living by himself.

The creatures

The creatures themselves are a metaphor for the bright imagination of young people. Young people are often enamored with the simplest of things and this seems to be the case for the boy too - for example, when he sees the lamp it inspires the creature, Zamp. The pages of the book are also very colorful which reflects the vividness of his imagination.
