The Truth About Forever Quotes

Quotes

"I like flaws. I think they make things interesting."

Wes

Here Wes is considering what characteristics he finds attractive in a woman, and it makes Macy fall further in love with him as she feels like she can be herself around him, without worrying about also showing her best side. It gives Macy hope that she can live a life that truly belongs to her, where she is allowed to be the 'real' her.

"It's like forever, always changing."

Molly

This is a crucial moment in the novel as it is at this point that the 'forever' referenced in the title is finally explained to not only Macy, but also the reader. Elements of what constitutes as forever have been hinted at in the run-up to Molly's explanation, however that only created confusion for both Macy and the reader. It is in this moment of sadness when everything suddenly falls into place and becomes clear, and that is the skill of Sarah Dessen, being able to create situations that everyone can relate to.

"All this buildup to a great leap, and I didn't fall or fly."

Macy

Throughout the novel, Macy has been battling many of her internal struggles and fears, but her decision to make the commitment and take action has worked, as she finally understands what her purpose in life is despite it feeling very surreal for her. As she later goes onto say "wondering if I'd ever jumped at all" and that sums up her journey to this point incredibly well, as it feels anti-climactic for her, as, despite all of the 'buildup' and her issues, she is still the same person she was before.
