Macy Queen
The protagonist of the story and a very conflicted character. The death of her father has had a great impact on her, and so as a result she tries to occupy her time with other things she can control, unlike her father's death. She begins to find herself as she develops her relationship with Wes and Kirsty.
Deborah Queen
At times, an absent mother to Macy who is depressed over the loss of her husband. She struggles to care for her daughter during this time, and as a result, secludes herself, leading to Macy's further feeling of isolation and sadness. She also blames herself for her husband's death and the guilt causes her even more misery.
Wes
Macy's love interest in the book. However, he already has a girlfriend and as such is conflicted because as much as he would like to be with Macy, hsi loyalty lies with his girlfriend. He is also a bit of a troubled character and is coping with the death of his mother, thereby establishing a connection between himself and Macy.
Kristy
Macy's friend, who is extremely loyal and supportive of her. She is the opposite of Macy, always full of life and urging her to be who she is . However, she has her own troubles, including her absent mum and her sister that she cares for. This allows her to relate to Macy.
Jason
Macy's ex-boyfriend. When he breaks up with her he really shakes up her life because she thought that was one thing she had in her control. Jason comes across as a great, popular, kind guy but he was unable to provide Macy with the emotional support after her father's death.
